Its Monday! What are you Reading? (2)

This is a weekly meme hosted by Shelia at Book Journey. Last week due to the mass amount of reading for school I had to start I did not get to finish Linger, OR Shadow Kiss, although I am a chapter away from Shadow Kiss, so I guess that sort of counts, lol!

Last Week:

"Shadow Kiss" - Richelle Mead (almost done)
"Linger" - Maggie Stiefvater (half way done)

This Week:

"Eona" - Alison Goodman

"Eon has been revealed as Eona, the first female Dragoneye in hundreds of years. Along with fellow rebels Ryko and Lady Dela, she is on the run from High Lord Sethon's army. The renegades are on a quest for the black folio, stolen by the drug-riddled Dillon; they must also find Kygo, the young Pearl Emperor, who needs Eona's power and the black folio if he is to wrest back his throne from the selfstyled "Emperor" Sethon. Through it all, Eona must come to terms with her new Dragoneye identity and power-and learn to bear the anguish of the ten dragons whose Dragoneyes were murdered. As they focus their power through her, she becomes a dangerous conduit for their plans. . . ."

"Darkfever" - Karen Marie Mooning

"MacKayla Lane’s life is good. She has great friends, a decent job, and a car that breaks down only every other week or so. In other words, she’s your perfectly ordinary twenty-first-century woman. Or so she thinks…until something extraordinary happens ... When her sister is murdered, leaving a single clue to her death–a cryptic message on Mac’s cell phone–Mac journeys to Ireland in search of answers. The quest to find her sister’s killer draws her into a shadowy realm where nothing is as it seems, where good and evil wear the same treacherously seductive mask..."

On my Wishlist (8)

On My Wishlist is a fun weekly event hosted by Book Chick City and runs every Saturday. It's where I list all the books I desperately want but haven't actually bought yet. They can be old, new or
forthcoming. For this weeks wishlist I actually went onto the Chapters/Indigo website onto my account  and looked at all the books I've put on my wishlist for ordering (at some point, lol).

"Delirium" - Lauren Oliver

"Before scientists found the cure, people thought love was a good thing. They didn’t understand that once love -- the deliria -- blooms in your blood, there is no escaping its hold. Things are different now. Scientists are able to eradicate love, and the governments demands that all citizens receive the cure upon turning eighteen. Lena Holoway has always looked forward to the day when she’ll be cured. A life without love is a life without pain: safe, measured, predictable, and happy. But with ninety-five days left until her treatment, Lena does the unthinkable: She falls in love."

"Wither" - Lauren DeStefano

"Obviously, something went terribly wrong. Genetic mutations have festered, reducing human longevity to twenty-five, even less for most women. To prevent extinction, young girls are kidnapped, mated in polygamous marriages with men eager to procreate. Sixteen-year-old Rhine Ellery, a recent victim of this breeding farm mentality, has vowed to break loose from its fetters; but finding allies and a safe way out is a challenge she can only hope she will survive."

"Bloodlines" - Richelle Mead

"When alchemist Sydney is ordered into hiding to protect the life of Moroi princess Jill Dragomir, the last place she expects to be sent is a human private school in Palm Springs, California. But at their new school, the drama is only just beginning."

"Blood Promise"- Richelle Mead

"The recent attack on St. Vladimir's Academy devastated the entire Moroi world. Many are dead. And, for the few victims carried off by Strigoi, their fates are even worse. A rare tattoo now adorns Rose's neck, a mark that says she's killed far too many Strigoi to count. But only one victim matters . . . Dimitri Belikov. Rose must now choose one of two very different paths: honoring her life's vow to protect Lissa—her best friend and the last surviving Dragomir princess—or, dropping out of the Academy to strike out on her own and hunt down the man she loves. She'll have to go to the ends of the earth to find Dimitri and keep the promise he begged her to make. But the question is, when the time comes, will he want to be saved?"

Hunger Games: Official Theatrical Trailer

Apparently it is the day for movie trailers! Here it is folks, the "Hunger Games" official trailer! Who among you has not been waiting for this trailer since you heard it was going to become a movie. I am overly excited about this movie. Even though I am not a huge fan of the actors and actresses they've chosen I still think Lionsgate is going to do an excellent job at making this a movie experience you won't want to miss.

I absolutely love the ending of this trailer, and the music as well. Very well done in my opinion.

Underworld: Awakening Theatrical Trailer

Waiting on Wednesday (8)

"Waiting on Wednesday" is a weekly meme hosted by "Breaking the Spine" were bloggers can post their anticipated upcoming publications!

This week was a little bit harder to figure out what I was waiting for because, if you haven't noticed my countdowns at the bottom of my blog have informed me that in less then 100 days two of my most anticipated books will be published to the public and guess who will be first in line to pick hers up! lol. And unfortunately I believe I have already posted those two books TWICE in a "Waiting on Wednesday" lol ... But there is never a shortage of books in my opinion that a girl can't be anticipating!

"Embrace" - Jessica Shirvington
Expected publication date: March 15, 2012
(for full synopsis please click on the title)

"I slowly opened my eyes. The sun speared its first bright rays of golden orange into the sky and I leapt from the cliff, with the sorrowful knowledge that no matter what the outcome, at least part of me would die that day..."

"As Violet gets caught up in an ancient battle between dark and light, she must choose her path. The wrong choice could cost not only her life, but her eternity..."

"Shatter Me" - Tahereh Mafi
Expected publication date: November 15, 2011
(for full synopsis please click on the title)

"Juliette hasn't touched anyone in exactly 264 days. The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette's touch is fatal. As long as she doesn't hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don't fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color."

"In this electrifying debut, Tahereh Mafi presents a world as riveting asThe Hunger Games and a superhero story as thrilling as The X-Men. Full of pulse-pounding romance, intoxicating villainy, and high-stakes choices,Shatter Me is a fresh and original dystopian novel—with a paranormal twist—that will leave readers anxiously awaiting its sequel."

Dimitri Belikov: Tall, dark, dangerous and ... Russian? Are among the many descriptors used to describe Dimitri Belikov along side with sexy, lustful and god-like as well. I have read the first three in the series Vampire Academy where Dimitri makes his appearance, and from the start of the first novel I was hooked on him. He is older than most Y.A. novels around 24 I believe the first book had said, but that doesn't mean we all can't swoon over him. He is a Guardian to the royal Lissa, and trainer to Rose Hathaway. Through the eye's of Rose we get to see how she is attracted to him, and lets just say its nothing short of tourment when all you want is for him to take off shirt in at least one of the novels.Although for all of his dark wisdomatic demeanor, he does show a soft romantic side later on in the series which is a huge turn on for most girls, dark, brooding exterior with a touch of romance interior. Always playing by the rules is another huge role for Dimitri in the novels, although Rose does get him to break two or three which just adds a dash of deliciousness to him when he does. All and all the novels have kept me up far into daylight although a dream or two about Dimitri is more than welcomed while asleep as well. ;)

Swoon-Worthy Quotes: (Seeing as I am only just finishing the third book, I am sure there are far more better quotes than what I am currently putting down.)

Rose: "The spell. Victor said you had to want me... to care about me... for it to work. Did you? Did you want me?
Dimitri: "Yes, Roza. I did want you. Still do. I wish ... we could be together?"
"Vampire Academy" - Richelle Mead
(GAH! Just how he says her name is sexy :P)

Dimitri: "No. If I let myself love you, I won't throw myself in front of her ... I'll throw myself in front of you"
"Vampire Academy" - Richelle Mead

Rose: "Wait. You think I'm going to die? That's why you slept with me?"
Dimitri: " No, no, of course not. I did what I did because... believe me, it wasn't because of that. Regardless of the specifics- or if it`s even true- she[Rondha- the gypsy] was right about how easily things can change. We try to do what`s right, or rather, what others say is right. But sometimes, when that goes against who we are... you have to choose. Even before the Strigoi attack, as I watched all the problems you were struggling with, I realized how much you mean to me. It changed everything. I was worried about you- so, so worried. You have no idea. And it became useless to try to act I could ever put any Moroi life above yours. It`s not going to happen, no matter how wrong others say it is. And so i decided that`s something I have to deal with. Once I made that decision... there was nothing to hold us back." He hesitated, seeming to replay his words as he brushed my hair from my face. " Wel, to hold me back. I`m speaking for myself. I don`t mean to act like I know exactly why you did it."
Rose: " I did it because I love you," I said, like it was the most obvious thing in the world. And really, it was.
He [Dimitri] laughed. "You can sum up in one sentence what it takes me a whole speech to get out."
Rose: "Because it`s that simple. I love you, and I don`t want to keep pretending that I don`t."
"Shadow Kiss" - Richelle Mead
(I am pretty sure this is my favourite quote so far from "Shadow Kiss")

Dimitri: "No, It won't happen to you. You're too strong. You will fight it, just like you did this time"
Rose: "I only did it because you were here, I can't do it by myself"
Dimitri: "You can, you're strong - you're so, so strong. Its why I love you"
"Shadow Kiss" - Richelle Mead

"It reminded me of the night we'd been under Victor's lust spell, both of us driven by inner forces we couldn't control. It was like we were starving or drowning, and only the other person could save us. I clung to him, one arm around his neck while my other hand gripped his back ..."

Its Monday! What are you Reading? (1)

This is a weekly meme hosted by Shelia at Book Journey. This is my first time participating in a Monday meme, so here we go!

Last weeks reads:

"Vampire Academy" - Richelle Mead
"Frostbite" - Richelle Mead

This week reads:

"Shadow Kiss" - Richelle Mead

"Is Rose's fate to kill the person she loves most? It's springtime at St. Vladimir's Academy, and Rose Hathaway is this close to graduation. Since Mason's death, Rose hasn't been feeling quite right. She has dark flashbacks in the middle of practice, can't concentrate in class, and has terrifying dreams about Lissa. But Rose has an even bigger secret .... She's in love with Dimitri. And this time, it's way more than a crush. Then Strigoi target the academy in the deadliest attack in Moroi history, and Dimitri is taken. Rose must protect Lissa at all costs, but keeping her best friend safe could mean losing Dimitri forever..."

"Linger" - Maggie Stiefvater

"In Maggie Stiefvater's Shiver, Grace and Sam found each other.  Now, inLinger, they must fight to be together. For Grace, this means defying her parents and keeping a very dangerous secret about her own well-being. For Sam, this means grappling with his werewolf past . . . and figuring out a way to survive into the future. Add into the mix a new wolf named Cole, whose own past has the potential to destroy the whole pack.  And Isabelle, who already lost her brother to the wolves . . . and is nonetheless drawn to Cole. At turns harrowing and euphoric, Linger is a spellbinding love story that explores both sides of love -- the light and the dark, the warm and the cold -- in a way you will never forget"

"Vampire Academy" by Richelle Mead

St. Vladimir’s Academy isn’t just any boarding school—it’s a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They’ve been on the run, but now they’re being dragged back to St. Vladimir’s—the very place where they’re most in danger …”

What a great start to a series! I was expecting something totally different than what Richelle Mead delivered! First off may I say that this world of vampire royals, half bread guardians, and the “evil” vampire is just fabulous! I am absolutely intrigued by the whole world she has created; very different from our average vampire romance young adult novels. I find that this series in particular has a much more mature tone to it. Although I’m sure that having older characters than 20 in the storyline does make that more acceptable. And I also love the view point of Rose Hathaway throughout the entire book; she is a saucy, sarcastic, sexy heroine and I love her page after page.

We are thrown right into the thick of things at the beginning of the novel with Rose Hathaway as our narrator. Her and Lissa her best Moroi vampire friend is on the run from the Guardians of their school St. Vladimir’s due to an incident that happened two years prior. At the beginning Lissa is portrayed as quiet, shy and a little mysterious I guess to the curious mind (such as mine). But Rose on the other hand as I have said before is very in your face, bold, fierce and very very sarcastic which just makes me like her even more. Rose like most of the other guardians back at St. Vladimir’s is half vampire, Dhampir, and is special compared to the other’s … She has a type of bond with Lissa, that they can’t explain but makes it very easy for her to protect Lissa from all sorts of danger like the undead vampire’s called Strigoi (that thrive for the Moroi blood, that is why St. Vlad’s is a school bent on educating and training Dhampirs as bodyguards).

Within the first chapter the reader gets a first hand look at how special and strong Lissa and Rose’s bond is. They are attacked by a group of guardians from St. Vladimir’s issued to bring Lissa and Rose back. Among these guardian’s is Dimitri Belikov; if his name isn’t sexy enough for you, he is a god among the younger guardians, and soon to be Rose’s new private tutor at St. Vladimir’s as her punishment for running away (not that is a bad thing for any woman in her circumstances).  At first Rose is not impressed that the guardians had found her and Lissa, and to make her situation even worse, she now has to live and obey the schools rules, or else she’ll get kicked out and will never be Lissa’s guardian when they graduate.

There are so many relationships, romances, school angsts, and of course school cliques! It wouldn’t be high school without the school cliques. But the best part about this series is that no matter what, Mead is able to include Roses, and Lissa’s friendship into everything that occurs with the two girls. Lissa falls for the bad boy, which of course Rose does not approve at all. Rose isn’t sure how she feels about any of the boys in her life but Lissa tries and persuades her to date a cute boy name Mason who practically worships the ground Rose walks on. And of course Lissa becomes more and more tangled in her own mysterious life and “powers” that Rose is driven to help her no matter what. And it wouldn’t be a private high school for vampires without a kidnapping or two. This book will definitely keep you up into the wee hours of the morning.

The character dynamics of this book grow with every twist and turn they all go through. Rose is by far my favourite character in the book because I think she has the most to learn out of all the characters. She develops her skills, her emotions, and her bond with Lissa throughout the entire book which in the long run sets up for an amazing second book and currently third book as well (I’ve only gotten that far in the series so far).

And if Roses feisty attitude and outlook on life doesn’t draw you in, or the soft, gentle nature of Lissa either … than Dimitri definitely will. I won’t spoil too much in my food for thought review, but he is Russian, tall, dark and all sort of deliciousness! Definitely easy to sink your teeth into this saucy Y.A. romance.
