Waiting on Wednesday (15)

"Waiting on Wednesday" is a weekly meme hosted by "Breaking the Spine" were bloggers can post their anticipated upcoming publications!

This week's WoW was chosen due to my new obsession with the video game Assassins Creed. My significant other had just recently played the entire final game of Assassins Creed in 5 days, so my TV was
commandeered for that amount of time and when I wasn't reading I was watching Ezio Auditore jump around Constantinople killing people. The following book looks absolutely spectacular and has peaked my interest for a couple of reasons.

Grave Mercy by R.L. LaFevers
Publication Date: March 7th, 2012
Publisher: Houghton Mifflin Harcourt

Why be the sheep, when you can be the wolf?

Seventeen-year-old Ismae escapes from the brutality of an arranged marriage into the sanctuary of the convent of St. Mortain, where the sisters still serve the gods of old. Here she learns that the god of Death Himself has blessed her with dangerous gifts—and a violent destiny. If she chooses to stay at the convent, she will be trained as an assassin and serve as a handmaiden to Death. To claim her new life, she must destroy the lives of others.

Ismae's most important assignment takes her straight into the high court of Brittany—where she finds herself woefully under prepared—not only for the deadly games of intrigue and treason, but for the impossible choices she must make. For how can she deliver Death’s vengeance upon a target who, against her will, has stolen her heart?

THOUGHTS: First off, I am just in love with the cover! I love her dress, the way she is positioned and the cross bow! She looks totally bad ass, lol. This book had sparked my interest also, when I saw it up on a meme, "In My Mailbox" hosted by the Story Siren. The description about Ismae being an assassin of the God Death firstly peaks my interest as a Classics student, I love god and goddess lore and tales! (I'm obsessed, lol) and secondly appealed to my now new obsession with Assassins Creed the video game. After reading the actual plot I think this publication will have a strong Y.A. romance, paranormal following and will definitely be on my must have list. Lastly I'd just like to point out that assassins within the confines of history actually have a very mysterious role. I know it sounds unreal and fantastical BUT it is true; there have been some historical documents revealing assassins during the Early and Middle Ages of Europe. Food for thought :)
