Waiting on Wednesday (14)

"Waiting on Wednesday" is a weekly meme hosted by "Breaking the Spine" were bloggers can post their anticipated upcoming publications!

This weeks "WoW" has two motives. One to let all you fabulous followers out there know about a great upcoming 2012 publication, and two, to let all you "Nightshade" fans out there know about the change in publication for "Bloodrose" - trust me its GOOD news!

"Hemlock" by Kathleen Peacock
Publication date: May 8th, 2012
Publisher: Katherine Tegan Books (Harper Collins)

"Mackenzie and Amy were best friends. Until Amy was brutally murdered."

"Since then, Mac’s life has been turned upside down. She is being haunted by Amy in her dreams, and an extremist group called the Trackers has come to Mac’s hometown of Hemlock to hunt down Amy’s killer: A white werewolf."

"Lupine syndrome—also known as the werewolf virus—is on the rise across the country. Many of the infected try to hide their symptoms, but bloodlust is not easy to control.
Wanting desperately to put an end to her nightmares, Mac decides to investigate Amy’s murder herself. She discovers secrets lurking in the shadows of Hemlock, secrets about Amy’s boyfriend, Jason, her good pal Kyle, and especially her late best friend. Mac is thrown into a maelstrom of violence and betrayal that puts her life at risk."

"Kathleen Peacock’s thrilling novel is the first in the Hemlock trilogy, a spellbinding urban fantasy series filled with provocative questions about prejudice, trust, lies, and love."

Thoughts: The very first thing that drew me into this book was definitely the cover! It is absolutely stunning! I must say I am a sucker for over flowing gowns, script writing, colour contrast, and if it can be added shirtless boys (hehe) - which I think this cover gives me all that (except the shirtless boys, but we can't have everything, hehe). The second thing that drew me in was the title. Hemlock for most of you that don't know is the flower that can be turned into a liquid poison; and also the poison that Socrates was forced to take as an execution technique in ancient times. Ah! The historian in me is showing! So I found that after reading the excerpt about it, the title definitely fits the story (especially since the town is called Hemlock). And lastly the idea of the "Lupine Syndrome" - I have become recently obsessed with werewolves and their origins. I find that a lot of authors have very unique images of what werewolves are, and I enjoy all the creativeness each author puts into their stories. This version it is describe as a virus, instead of the common ancestral heritage, or a bite; also being a werewolf is not entirely a secret, and there are human forces out there to hunt down these were's. It is a very urban twist on an old tale. "Hemlock" will definitely take the paranormal book world by storm, surrounding itself in mystery, lies, and love!

"Bloodrose" by Andrea Cremer
